Levi's military marker is mounted on the back side of this stone. ------------------------- Iola Register Saturday, August 3, 2002 Levi Lyle Carver Levi Lyle Carver, 89, of St. George died Thursday, Aug. 1, at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center in Wamego. He is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Ekstrom of Belleville and Deanna Jeardoe and her husband, Leonard, of Hebron, Neb.; six sons, Larry of St. George, Ivan and his wife, Sandra, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Steven and his wife, Maxine, of Willard, and Curtis of Nelson, Neb., and Paul and Joe of Iola; his ex-wife, Eunice of Belleville; a sister, Betty Coupal of Miltonvale; 24 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. He was born June 25,1913, in Ottawa County, the son of Levi Bert and Ethyl Bishop Carver. He attended school in Clyde. He farmed for many years in Republic and Could counties and at one time ran a dairy farm. He then drove a Star mail route from 1959 until 1975. He had several routes in eastern Kansas including Washington to Atchison and Fort Riley to Topeka. After moving to St. George, he worked for McCall patterns as a security guard. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was a member of the American Legon, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge. He liked to raise wild flowers, watermelons and work in his orchard. He was known as the “Flower Man of St. George.” On May 26, 1935, he married Eunice M. Feldhausen in Clifton. They were divorced. He then married Elsie Elaine Harrell on June 10, 1968, in Miami, Okla. She died in 1994. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the R.J. Evans Mortuary in Wamego. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. until service time Monday.
