Description	:	1ND LT USAAF WWII - KIA 34th BG, 7th B Sq He was the son of W L Kiefer and Martha V Waggoner of Lawrence KS. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School and attended the University of Kansas in 1942, and enlisted in the service February 1943. He had brothers, Dr. Everett Kiefer of Boston MA, Glenn Kiefer of Portland OR, Dale Kiefer of Lawrence KS, and two sisters, Marjory Kiefer Meyer of Van Nuys CA and Mrs Platt Craig of Durango CA. He was killed in action on his first mission in B-17G #43-38419 to a target at Brandenburg, Germany when the plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire about 10 miles north of the Elbe River. THe plane went into a flat spin and the plane broke apart. The crew members were buried by the Germans near the edge of the woods at Eggstadt. His remains were later returned to his family in Kansas. --------- Many thanks to his niece Sandy for contributing much in her uncle's honor~ —- Lt.
