Description	:	Patillo Ainsworth Finlayson, 90, was a son of the late Burruss and Jennie Wait Foster Finlayson. After graduating from Cheraw High School, he entered the University of South Carolina, graduating from the School of Journalism. While at U.S.C. he was a member of the quartette and the chorus. Immediately upon graduation he joined the U.S Navy as an ensign and was sent to Princeton University for his first training. Read More	Patillo Ainsworth Finlayson, 90, was a son of the late Burruss and Jennie Wait Foster Finlayson. After graduating from Cheraw High School, he entered the University of South Carolina, graduating from the School of Journalism. While at U.S.C. he was a member of the quartette and the chorus. Immediately upon graduation he joined the U.S Navy as an ensign and was sent to Princeton University for his first training. While there, LST ships were being built and when they were finished he was assigned LST 312, which was his ship all during the war. During WWII he served in the European Operations aboard the USS LST 312 as the Communications Officer. While serving on 312 he took part in the Sicily, Salerno and Normandy campaigns. His convoy sailed through rough seas to Normandy, France, where the LST 312 delivered British troops onto Gold Beach, June 6. Ainsworth was released with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He spent the rest of his career in the military as the Base Historian and Information Services Officer for Warner Robins Air Force Base in Macon, Ga. Mr. Finlayson is survived by a sister, Jennie Llew (Mrs. Clarence Lee Guyton) of Still Hopes; a niece, Beverly Finlayson Triber of Columbia, Dr. Jennie Finlayson Rakestraw of Rock Hill; great-nephews, Philip Triber of Columbia and Charles Wofford Triber of Asheville, N.C.; sister-in-law, Mrs. H. Westbrook Finlayson Sr.; many nieces and nephews of Gadsden, Ala. He was predeceased by two sisters, Rutha Wait (Mrs. Ernest Dyal) and Florence Foster Finlayson; three brothers, B. Wofford Finlayson, James Murdoch Finlayson and Henry Westbrook Finlayson.
