Glasco Sun, May 29, 1941, page 1: Miss Lillie Studt, who teaches at the Kansas State school for the blind had the unusual experience of seeing the Santa Fe Trailsway bus on which she was returning home Saturday, burn down to the framework at 7:00 p.m. a half mile west of Detroit on U.S. 40. Studt Funeral December 8 Lillie Elisabeth Studt was born August 5, 1897 to Henry and Frances Gruenthal Studt on a farm west of Glasco. Her earthly life of 98 years, three months and 29 days ended Monday evening December 4, 1995 at the Nicol Home in Glasco, Kansas. In 1900, Lillie and her family moved to southern Texas. They were caught in the tragic and devastating hurricane that destroyed Galveston. The family settled on a small farm near the community of Annihime. Three years later they returned to the Glasco area. Lillie attended District No. 42 rural school, took normal training, and graduated from Delphos High School in the Class of 1915. Lillie began an honorable career of teaching at her childhood almamater, District No. 42. Two years later, she taught of the Guipre School north of Glasco, later the Griffin School, and finally at a country school located west and north of Delphos, which was near her home. She attended Emporia State Teachers College for one year, and in about 1931 accepted a teaching position at the Kansas School for the blind in Kansas City, Kansas. During her tenure of 33 years, she devoted herself to serving God by teaching the blind and writing in Braille. Lillie received the Master Teacher Award shortly before her retirement in 1964. A kind, patient, studious and loving person, Lillie enjoyed teaching. She considered children to be the greatest gift from God, and loved being with them, both in the classroom and at play. She stressed the necessity of proper grammar. Her leisure time was happiest spent being with her family, working in her garden, and reading a good book. Lillie was a devoted member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, along with the WELCA. She enjoyed her membership in the Sunflower Study Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She had a strong, abiding relationaship with God that gave her strength all through her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Ernst who died in infancy, Paul and Don Studt, three sisters, Eva Henning, Marie Pinkall, and Ota M. Studt. Those who mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her nieces, Frances Webster of Glasco, Marjorie Tobald of Glasco, Helen Arken of Los Gatos, CA, Norma Pounds of Colorado Springs, CO, Alice Boucek of Concordia, Ruth Marcus of Hemmit, CA; four nephews, Joe Pinkall of Gretna, NE, Paul Studt of Phoeniz, AZ, Gary Studt of Villa Park, IL, David Pinkall of Fremont, NE; one sister-in-law, Marie Studt of Glasco, along with many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Friday, December 4, 1995 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Carole Andres officiating. Music was by Mr. William Martin, soloist and Mrs. Marilyn Harwood, organist. Casket bearers were: Dan Mosher, Bill Tobald, David Pinkall, Joe Pinkall, James Tobald and John Tobald. Funeral arrangements were by Dean Funeral Home, Glasco. Final resting place was in Glasco Cemetery.
