Cary, Sr., and Elizabeth (Ward) Cary, was born in Cherokee County, Iowa, August 20, 1875. His mother preceded him in death when he was still a small infant. When he was three and one-half years of age, his father located northeast of Glasco, where Liston attended rural school and grew to manhood. On August 22, 1897, he was united in marriage to Bertha Cook, of Delphos, Kansas. To this union was born one son, Bobbie A., who died in infancy, and two daughters, Mrs. Geneva Simmons of Colorado Springs, and Mrs. Fern Shepard, who preceded him in death March 8, 1922. His wife preceded him in death Jan. 5, 1931. Here he, with many others of the human race, suffered the pain and agony that follows a broken home. Again he was united in marriage to Mary Sondles of Colorado, and they made their home in Center, Colorado, and in Colorado Springs and enjoyed the blessings and companionship of their married life until he was forced to lay her away in March, 1941. Life seemed to present to him on his journey many rugged heights. Disappointment marked his trail. Not too rugged in physique, he braved the storms of life, and again was united in marriage to Mrs. Ellen Ortner of Oklahoma, in April 1946. He was fortunate enough to round out almost three years more than the allotted three score years and ten. His passing occurred on the 18th day of May, 1948, as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage, at Colorado Springs, where he had gone for a short visit. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Ellen Ortner Cary of Tulsa, Okla.; his daughter, Mrs. Geneva Simmons and two granddaughters, Mrs. R. L. Haines of Colorado Springs; Mrs. H.H. Lemon of Honolulu, Hawaii, and five great-grandchildren, and three half-brothers, Luther Cary, of Kansas City; Warren Cary, of Downs, Kansas; and Col. Milo Cary, with the United States Occupation Forces in Germany. In keeping with his last request, he will rest in the family plot in the Glasco cemetery. Funeral services were held Saturday,May 22, at 2:00 p.m., at the Griffith Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Clifford L. Moody. Appropriate songs were sung by Mrs. C.H. Jordan and Mrs. Bernice Harper, accompanied by Mrs. Irene Plush. Interment was in Glasco with the Griffith Funeral Home in charge.
