Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 2, at the United Methodist Church, Frederick, S.D., Rev. Don Peck officiating. Funeral home visitation will be Friday from 3-8 p.m., and one hour before services at the church. Lloyd Braa was born Jan. 21, 1926, at Frederick, S.D., to Henry and Martha Braa. He graduated from Frederick High School. He served with the U.S. Navy Amphibious Forces during World War II, in which he participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from South Dakota State University. He eventually moved to San Francisco, where he settled and worked as a mechanical and marine engineer at the Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard from 1951 through 1982. He was married to Gladys Braa, whose union produced his loving son, Dr. Henry Braa. He was later married to Thelma Braa. He was a strong, kindhearted and fun-loving man who enjoyed life and had a great will to live. He did not hesitate to help a fellow person in need. He volunteered through different organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, and he proudly served his country both in the military and through his work as an engineer at the Naval Shipyard. He will be deeply missed by all of us who love him and have met him on the road of life. Survivors include his wife, Thelma Braa; one son, Dr. Henry Antonio Braa and his wife Sonia; two granddaughters, Angelica and Christina Braa; three brothers, Elroy, Clem and Wesley Braa; two sisters, Marvis Bado and JoAnn Rosso; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Muriel Kuehne and Elaine Famias. Casketbearers will be Doug Braa, Kent Braa, Mike Kuehne, Jack Telin, Gene Pence and Delbert Lunzman. Ushers will be Keith Kuehne and Paul Braa. The family would prefer memorials to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY 10605; the American Cancer Society, or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 733 3rd Ave., New York, NY 10017.
