Description	:	MADISON — Mr. Lloyd Weldon Smith, 83, of 316 W. Decatur Street, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Morehead Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 27, at the Chapel of Ray Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson, Reverend James Craig, and Reverend David Adkins officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born in Stokes County on April 13, 1926, to the late Issac Furman "Bud" Smith and the late Lilla Ann Shelton Smith. He was a proud World War II veteran of the U.S. Army with 12 years of service and was a retired truck driver. He was a member of Refuge Baptist Church and had started the gospel groups, The Singing Smith Family and the Joint Heirs. On November 29, 1954, he married Lou Ann Marie "Evelyn" Coleman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Brent Smith; sisters, Maude Adkins, Ruth Stewart, Hallie Biggs, and Kathleen Sharp; and brothers, Hubert Smith, Carlis Smith, Doyle Smith, Clayton Smith, and Paul Smith. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Coleman Smith, of Madison; children, Dewey Smith and wife, Marsha, of Stokesdale, Rickey Smith and wife, Sue, of Eden, Nadine Rumley and husband, Phil, of Madison, Terry Smith and wife, Ruth, of Eden, Renee Lashley and husband, Tommy, of Madison, Mitchell Smith of Madison, and Tonya Lynn Ortega and husband, Noel, of Stokesdale; sisters, Wilmouth Bowman of Asheboro, Dorothy Baughn of Mayodan, Era Varner of Stoneville and Sarah Bowser of Madison; grandchildren, Johnny and Sara Smith, Allen and Mary Smith, Missy and William Coppage, Jason and Linda Smith, Samantha Jo Smith, Jacob Rumley, Cole Lashley, Donnie Barbour, and Adam Barbour; six great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight, Sunday, July 26, at the funeral home and all other times at the home of Evelyn Smith. Ray Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
