Description	:	Lois Elaine Westerdahl, of Brewster died Friday, March 14, 2003 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. She was born July 23, 1918 the daughter of Vernon and Maude (Galbraith) Monroe at Bridgeport. Lois attended school and completed grades 1-6 at the little school house on Bridgeport Bar. After the Ferry was put in allowing crossing of the Columbia River she completed her education in Brewster graduating with the class of 1935. Read More	Lois Elaine Westerdahl, of Brewster died Friday, March 14, 2003 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. She was born July 23, 1918 the daughter of Vernon and Maude (Galbraith) Monroe at Bridgeport. Lois attended school and completed grades 1-6 at the little school house on Bridgeport Bar. After the Ferry was put in allowing crossing of the Columbia River she completed her education in Brewster graduating with the class of 1935. During this time she represented the town as Miss Brewster in the Apple Blossom Parade. Lois attended WSC for a year and then Cheney Normal (EWU) for two years receiving her teachers certificate after which she taught school for three years. Lois joined the U.S. Navy serving 2.5 years as a Wave, mainly in San Francisco. While teaching in Brewster, she met and subsequently married her husband of 58 years Roy Westerdahl. They were married on December 16,1945 at the Little Church on the Prairie at Lakewood Center a suburb of Tacoma. After her discharge from the Navy they built a house on Mercer Island and they both attended the University of Washington where she attained her Bachelors Degree in education. She taught primary grades in both Helen Bush and John Muir schools while her husband finished his degree. In 1949 they moved to the Bridgeport Bar where they built a house and started in the fruit growing business, with 15 acres of Apples. They gradually expanded the orchard to a 100 acres. Lois raised three children during this time. She took great pleasure in this and was a Campfire Leader and Cub Scout Den mother. She enjoyed planning and giving many birthday and special event parties for her kids through their upbringing. She and Roy started Club 40 a successful and long running dinner and dance club. After they retired from farming they moved to their present home in Brewster in 1978. Lois was a life member of the Lake woods Golf Club and enjoyed many years of playing there. She was a life member of both the DAV and American Legion Post #97. Lois was an active member of the Hospital Guild and enjoyed her time for their various activities. They wintered in Arizona for many years, during these times they played a lot of golf and square dancing. They did a lot of world traveling and spent many years RVing. Lois loved the outdoors and enjoyed many family picnics and camping trips. She enjoyed entertaining in her home, and was widely renowned for her outstanding cooking. She also was an excellent seamstress. She was a devoted wife, a doting grandmother, great grandmother and a good friend to a host of people. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Roy; sons, Brian and Vernon; daughter, Deanee, sister, Shirley; grandchildren, Jason, Amber, Christy, and Alisa; great grandchildren, Jenna, Lucas, and Ethan; numerous cousins. Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at Barnes Chapel. Committal Service & Interment to follow at the Bridgeport Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Okanogan-Douglas Hospital Guild at Brewster. Visitations Tuesday from 2-8 P.M. Services under the direction of Barnes Chapel, Brewster.
