Read More	The Locomotive-Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, July 27, 2017; pg. 14 Lois Mildred Schiermeyer, the daughter of Herman Fred Schiermeyer and Lena Sharlotte (Grummert) Schiermeyer was born May 2, 1935, in Bird City, Kansas. She was baptized May 26, 1935, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bird City and was confirmed August 17, 1947, at Salem Lutheran Church rural Superior. Lois departed this life April 15, 2017, at Silver Bluff Village, Canton, North Carolina, after a long painful bout of colon cancer at the age of 81 years, 11 months, 17 days. Lois moved to Nebraska in 1938 where she attended Fairview School district No. 49 and graduated from Nelson high School in 1952. Upon graduating, she worked at the welfare department at the court house in Nelson. She then moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she worked at the Lutheran Church headquarters. When the headquarters moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota she moved with them. Lois joined the Central Intelligence Agency on August 3, 1965, where she served as an operations support officer in the Directorate of Operations. She worked both at CIA headquarters in McLean, VA., and served overseas in Africa, Latin America and south Asia. She retired July 31, 1993, and was awarded the Career Intelligence Medal. Among some of the main stops in her job were Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mauritius, Kenya, Helvetica, LeSotho, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South African countries and many more places. In her spare time or when she was returning to the U.S. she would make stops to visit France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy and many other countries. She has left to mourn her passing: cousins and her good friends and neighbors in North Carolina, Roberta and Carol. They had this to say about her, "Lois was a very private person who enjoyed solitude. She enjoyed the company of her dogs and spent many hours outside planting flowers and plants. She enjoyed sitting outside watching the birds and being surrounded by the natural beauty of the area where she lived." Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her only brother, LeRoy and numerous cousins. A graveside service for Lois will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Superior with Pastor Ronald Keuhner officiating.
