Lorena Aileen Evans was born on March 11, 1908, in rural Randolph to Benjamin and Esther (Markham) Evans. She was raised on the family farm and attended rural school. Following graduation, Lorena attended Northern Normal College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in a one room school house south of Randolph. On Jan. 2, 1936, she married Earl Lutz in Miller, S.D. The couple made their home in White, S.D., for several years before moving to the Groton/Conde area. Lorena worked at a furrier for a time before operating a day care in her home. The couple later moved to Aberdeen, where Lorena worked as a ward clerk in the hospital. Lorena was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Aberdeen for over 50 years. During this time, she was active in the women's circle. She enjoyed knitting and word puzzles. Lorena was an active bridge player and Twins fan. She also belonged to the Neighborhood Birthday Club. In earlier years, she and Earl enjoyed traveling. Grateful for having shared in her life is her husband, Earl, of Aberdeen; three sons, Bruce (Gloria) Lutz of Richardson, Texas, Gail (Kay) Lutz of Cando, N.D., and Larry Lutz of Champlain (sic), Minn.; two daughters, Betty (Jeff) Schirle of Grand Forks, N.D., and Lynette Lutz of Aberdeen; two brothers, Layle Evans of Conde and Cyril Evans of Stratford; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Aubra & Francis Evans. ********************************************************* The 1910 US Census shows that Benjamin C. Living with them were daughter Lorena A., 11; son Cyril V., 9; son Francis B., 7; and son Aubra M., 4 yr 3 mo. The 1930 US Census shows that B. C. Evans, 44, and wife Esther Evans, 42, lived in Beotia Township, Spink County, South Dakota.
