Baird are: Dr. and Mrs. William Stout of Tokyo, Japan, Rev. and Mrs. Chester Young and family of Hawaii, Lieutenant and Mrs. L.D. Baird of San Antonio, TX, and Mrs. Jack Cox and children of High Point, N.C., Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Griffith of LaFollette were here this week. From the LaFollette Press, Thursday, April 26, 1956 and the Advance-Sentinel, Jellico, TN, Friday, April 27, 1956: "L.D. Baird, Sr., of Jellico, Dies, Funeral Saturday" Lorenzo Dorland Baird, Sr., of Jellico, a retired merchant and active participant in Campbell County politics for many years, died at his home last Friday morning. He was 75. Mr. Baird was a member of the Jellico First Baptist Church and of Jellico Lodge No. 527, Free and Accepted Masons. He was a member of the Campbell County Board of Education for several terms. Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Charlotte Galloway Baird; daughters, Mrs. Boyce Griffith of LaFollette, Mrs. William D. Stout of Tokyo, Japan, Mrs. Jack M. Cox of High Point, N.C., and Mrs. Chester R. Young of Honolulu, Hawaii; sons, Capt. L.D. Baird, Jr. of U.S. Air Force, Alaska, and Jack J. Baird of Nashville; and 10 grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Baird in their early years were both Campbell County School Teachers. He was born in Elk Valley, the son of Dr. and Mrs. C. R. Baird. He attended the old American Temperance University at Harriman and Cumberland College at Williamsburg, Ky. Mr. Baird was a member of the Jellico First Baptist Church and an active Mason for many years. In active business years he operated dry goods and furniture stores and had other enterprises. He also leaves five brothers, Judge Clayton R. Baird of Edinburg, Texas, R.B. Baird of Pineville, O.L. Baird of Oakdale, C.H. Baird of Baltimore, and Clyde Baird of Jellico; and two sisters, Mrs. Hudson Miller of Knoxville and Mrs. Bessie Allen of Elk Valley. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Jellico First Baptist Church, Rev. Richard R. Lloyd officiating. Interment was in Jellico Cemetery. Jellico Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements. Among out of town relatives and friends here because of the death and funeral of L.D. Baird were: Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Baird, Elk Valley, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brown, Mrs. Vernie Vincent, Walter Vincent, Jacksboro, Lendon Baird, Jacksboro, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Carr of Williamsburg, Dr. A.A. Baird, Caryville, Mr. and Mrs. Renfro Baird, Pineville, Mr. and Mrs. Hudson Miller and Mrs. Calvin Wallace of Knoxville, Mr. and Mrs. Mack Miller of Maryville, Rev. and Mrs. Vern C. Powers of LaFollette, Mrs. Thelma Lawson Rogers of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Fred Lawson Looney, of Crossville, Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Safriet of Knoxville, Marshal Rasnake of LaFollette, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Gile and Mrs. Clyde Cole, LaFollette.
