Description	:	Louis Goossen, 100 years of age, of Beatrice passed away peacefully at Beatrice Community Hospital Tuesday, June 25, 2019. He was born April 19, 1919 in Beatrice to Gerhard and Catherine (Thimm) Goossen and was a 1936 graduate of Beatrice High School. Louis served his country in the Civilian Public Service as a smoke jumper for three years in Montana. His first business was Goossen Electric. He spent the majority of his career expanding the dairy industry in Southeast Nebraska and Northeast Kansas. Read More	Louis Goossen, 100 years of age, of Beatrice passed away peacefully at Beatrice Community Hospital Tuesday, June 25, 2019. He was born April 19, 1919 in Beatrice to Gerhard and Catherine (Thimm) Goossen and was a 1936 graduate of Beatrice High School. Louis served his country in the Civilian Public Service as a smoke jumper for three years in Montana. His first business was Goossen Electric. He spent the majority of his career expanding the dairy industry in Southeast Nebraska and Northeast Kansas. His business expanded to manufacturing equipment used in the dairy industry, construction projects, and lawn care equipment. He ended his career by developing Flowing Springs and the Covered Bridge Heights. He was always an entrepreneur thinking of the next thing to accomplish or the next way he could bless someone. Louis was a lifelong active member of First Mennonite Church. He served on many boards including 35 years on the Beatrice Community Hospital board, former president of the Beatrice Chamber of Commerce, served on the Bethel College Board and the Homestead Village board, and was a member of the Mennonite Industry and Businessmen’s Association. Louis was inducted into the Beatrice High School Hall of Fame in 2005. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Martha; daughters Mary Christensen and husband Bob of Pittsburg, Texas and Pat Robbins and husband Greg of Goshen, Indiana; son Marvin and wife Lisa of Beatrice; 6 grandchildren, Natasha Smith, Alicia Kirkham(Brett), Chris Robbins(Jessi), Megan Robbins, Austin Goossen(Molly), and Alexandra Goossen; and eight great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents; sister, Frances Von Riesen; and brother John Goossen. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the First Mennonite Church with Reverend Don Diller officiating. Public interment will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday at the Mennonite Cemetery. The body will lie in state 5-9:00 PM Thursday with the family greeting friends from 7-8:30 PM on Thursday, 9:00 AM-8:00 PM Friday, and 9:00 AM-12:00 PM Saturday at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, and not at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the First Mennonite Church and the Mennonite Biblical Seminary with Bill Goossen and Louis Esau in charge.
