Description	:	Funeral services were held for Louis John Kruse, 88, Monday, Feb. 21, 1983, at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader. Burial was at the East Side Cemetery, Rev. Dr. Gene A. Becker officiated. Pallbearers included Lavern Zittergruen, Robert Cheeseman, John Kruse, Curtis Kruse, Lee Fehlhafer and Richard Heiden. He was born August 4, 1894, in Volga Township, the son of Herman and Mary Schmill Kruse Sr. and attended country school at Garber. On June 2, 1917, he married Martha Stemmer in Volga Township. He was born August 4, 1894, in Volga Township, the son of Herman and Mary Schmill Kruse Sr. and attended country school at Garber. On June 2, 1917, he married Martha Stemmer in Volga Township. They became the parents of one son and celebrated 65 years of marriage in 1982. They farmed near Elkport in the early years of marriage and retired to Elkader in 1948. He was a representative for Clayton-Communia Insurance Agency for 35 years and a state inheritance tax appraiser for 23 years. He died at home Friday, Feb. 18, 1983. Kruse served on the Elkader Town Council for 14 years and was mayor of Elkader for two years. He was an active fifty-year Mason, Consistory 32nd Degree, Honorary Knight Commander, Court of Honor (KCCH) in the Cedar Rapids El Kahir Shrine, and Eastern Star. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, and served on the council and various church committees. Preceding him in death were his son, Eldon; one granddaughter, Adrene; his parents, one sister and four brothers. Survivors include his wife, Martha; a sister, Mrs. Lydia Fehlhafer; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
