Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. At the age of seven years, she moved to Nebraska with her parents who settled on a homestead near Mason City. She was united in marriage with Henry E. Schaper on December 24, 1889. To this union four sons and four daughters were born; William C. of Broken Bow, Minnie E. Brown of Denver, Colorado, Myra Cooper of Kearney, Nebraska, Valeria Ruth Reed of Laramie, Wyoming and Ona Chipps, Henry Allen, Arthur and Alden of Mason City. Besides the children, she is survived by one brother, John Allen Trobee of Yancalla, Oregon; two half-sisters, Mary E. Lesan of Courtney, North Dakota, Ellen Dady of Broken Bow, Sophia I. Dady of Clearfield, Iowa and Ruth O. Runyan of Mason City; one half-brother, D.D. Beard. Other surviving relatives are 13 grandchildren. She was the exemplification of devotion and loyalty as a wife and mother and was idolized by her grandchildren. Mrs. Schaper was one of the fine types of pioneer women in the county. She bravely did her share toward conquering the wild soil of Custer County and helped it yield its share of the riches of the state. She not only had at heart the welfare of the community and all its institutions, but she gave of her time and effort and personal influence to promote those things which were for the good of those among whom she had lived for many years. No community gathering was complete without her. Her good works will live after her in the kindly memory of those who were privileged to know her. Mrs. Schaper was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mason City and retained to the last an abiding faith and generous interest in all church activities. After an illness of comparatively short duration, she passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska, August 13, 1934, at the age of 60 years and 24 days. Her husband passed away seven years ago, May 28th. Funeral rites, largely attended by relatives and friends, were held at 2:30 p.m. at the Baptist Church, Wednesday, with Rev. E.C. Barton, pastor, in charge. Interment in the Mason City Cemetery."
