Her parents were Heinrich August Orthman and Anna Margaretha Caroline Hollman. Louise was baptized in the home of her parents, May 20, 1871. In the spring of 1884, she was confirmed in the Kramer Lutheran church by the Rev. Huber, her church membership being in this congregation all her life. Entering into the holy estate of matrimony, August 22,1889 with William Jans, the deceased lived happily with her husband in marriage for 42 years. Her parents were Heinrich August Orthman and Anna Margaretha Caroline Hollman. Louise was baptized in the home of her parents, May 20, 1871. In the spring of 1884, she was confirmed in the Kramer Lutheran church by the Rev. Huber, her church membership being in this congregation all her life. Entering into the holy estate of matrimony, August 22,1889 with William Jans, the deceased lived happily with her husband in marriage for 42 years. Until 1913 these were spent on their farm five miles southeast of Crete and the rest of the years in their own home in Kramer. This marriage was blessed with three children, all surviving her and living in the vicinity of Kramer: Henry, living on the old homestead, Sophie, now Mrs. Aug. Schultz, and Caroline, now Mrs. Fred Knollenberg. Besides these, a niece, Mrs. Fred Janssen was taken into the home of the Jans family, being left an orphan in infancy, through the untimely death of her own mother and raised to womanhood through the love and kindness of the deceased. Mrs. Jans died last Thursday, October 29 at her home in Kramer at the age of 60 years, 10 months, and 19 days. Funeral services were held at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church at Kramer last Sunday afternoon. Rev. A. Cholcher officiating. A large gathering of relatives and friends from near and far attended the funeral. Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery at Kramer. Besides her husband and children mentioned above, she leaves to mourn her death, 9 grandchildren, a brother, Carl Orthmann of Greeley, Colorado, and a sister, Mrs. W. Wohl of Crete, and a large host of other relatives and friends. "Whom have I in heaven but Thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside Thee.
