(Louise Patterson) Crane, 87, daughter of pioneer family and lifetime resident of this section, died Saturday in a Great Falls rest home. She had been in poor health since suffering a stroke some weeks ago. Funeral services were being held this Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal church here. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Louise Patterson was born Jan. 5, 1884, in Fort Benton, then Montana territory, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George G. Patterson. Her parents had come to Montana in the 1870s and were married in St. Paul's church here. They ranched on the Shonkin until 1894 when they moved to Fort Benton. Louise attended school here until she was 14, and there being no high school here at that time she attended high school in Minneapolis. Younger Patterson children graduated from Fort Benton high. She passed the state teacher's examination and at 18 began teaching in a country school in the Bear Paws. She attended normal school at Dillon summers and soon began teaching in city schools. She married Ezra L. Crane, a son of Montana pioneers, on Aug. 24, 1910. Mrs. Crane was superintendent of church school of St. Paul's for 25 years here. Her husband, who died Feb. 13, 1960, in Great Falls, was employed in the assessor's office and for years in the Chouteau County Abstract Company, and served as mayor of Fort Benton for two terms. They moved to Great Falls in 1942, where Mr. Crane was employed for a number of years in the city treasurer's office. Mrs. Crane was chairman of the Chouteau County Red Cross chapter for seven years, and charter and life member and past matron of Bethany chapter, OES, here. While in Great Falls she was a member of Church of Incarnation, Daughters of the Nile, and took part in other activities. Survivors are a son, Leonard E. Crane, and a nephew, John Lepley, Fort Benton; two brothers, James Patterson, Klamath Falls, Ore., and George D. Patterson, Detroit; and a sister, Mrs. Leonora Culbertson, Portland, Ore. A sister, Mrs. Margaret Lepley, and a brother, John H. Patterson, and two granddaughters, Cleo and June Crane, preceded her in death.
