Description	:	Lucy Ann McKnight was the daughter of James Thomas McKnight and Jane Fane. She was the youngest child of 15 for James, 8 from his first wife and 7 from his second wife, Jane. Lucy married James Ferrier on 16 Jan 1866 in Osage County, MO. She was the youngest child of 15 for James, 8 from his first wife and 7 from his second wife, Jane. Lucy married James Ferrier on 16 Jan 1866 in Osage County, MO. Mrs. James Ferrier, one of Lewis County's oldest pioneers, passed away Wednesday night (June 15) at her home near Vader, following a stroke of paralysis which overcame her several months ago and made her a helpless invalid. Her husband and several of her children were at the bedside when the end came. She was 76 years old. Lucy McKnight was born October 31, 1844 in Osage County, Missouri, and in 1866 was united in marriage to James Ferrier. Her husband was a veteran of the Civil War, and like many of the boys who fought for Old Glory during those stirring times, set out for the west with his wife and reached Olequa, a small settlement on Cowlitz in 1873. A year later they homesteaded a piece of land near Vader, which has been their home since. "Grandma" Ferrier, as she was lovingly known during the latter years of her life by her hundreds of friends, lived the picturesque and strenuous life so common among the first white settlers in the northwest. During much of the time for the past twenty years, she had been a semi-invalid, but never lost that indomitable spirit and courage that were so manifest in her splendid character. Even after the final stroke that rendered her bedfast, she continued to receive her friends and conversed with them until the last. Besides the husband, six children, Joe, Leonard, Otis and Logan of Vader, Mrs. Charles Parsons of Winlock and Percy of Toledo, are left to mourn her loss.
