Read More	The Slater News-Rustler, February 5, 1959 Life-Long Resident of Community Died Saturday - Funeral Services for Mrs. Lula May Montgomery Held Here Monday Afternoon Funeral services were held at two-thirty Monday afternoon, February 2, at the Haines Funeral Home in Slater, for Mrs. Lula May Montgomery, who passed away Saturday, January 31, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ruby Turner, in Marshall. Rev. E.C. Shull of Marshall had charge of the services. Burial was made in the Slater City cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers were Gus Bacon, Roger Haynie, Howard Shook, Percy Johnson, Claude Oots, and I. Weakly. Lula May Johnson, daughter of the late Alvarian Johnson and Mary M. Howard Johnson, was born July 16, 1872, at Norton, Missouri. On October 27, 1897, she was united in marriage to John William Montgomery in Marshall, who survives her. She is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ruby Turner of Marshall, and Mrs. Alene Rehbein of Oxnard, California; two sons, Charley Montgomery of Napton, and Arch Montgomery of Slater; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Montgomery had spent her life in this community and she and her husband lived in Slater for a number of years prior to moving to Marshall with their daughter a few years ago. For the past 15 years she had been bedfast and when her husband became unable to take care of her, due to failing health, they moved to the Turner home, where they received devoted care and attention of Mrs. Turner and their other children. During her many years of invalidism, Mrs. Montgomery never complained but always maintained a cheerful disposition and she will be sadly missed by many. She was a member of the Slater Christian church.
