Read More	ydia Slonecker was born in Westmoreland county, Penn., on the 14th day of January, 1836, and died suddenly at her home in Seward March 19, 1907, at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 5 days. When a young woman she went to live for a short time with her brother George, now living in Seward but at that time living in Fulton county, Ill. Here she was married to Robert Jamison October 7, 1856. There were three children born to them. One of these children died a few years ago. Another lives in Alaska and the third, Sarah Lillian, living at University Place. When the Civil War came on Mr. Jamison entered the service, was fatally wounded in one of the engagements and died May 25, 1862. On September 8, 1863, Mrs. Jamison was married to Wesley L. Pendell, in McDonough county, Ill. Mr. Pendell had also been bereft of his companion and had been left with four small children. Mrs. Pendell became a true mother to them and all through the years intervening they have confided in her as they would an own mother. These were all present at the funeral, viz: Emory L. of York, Sarah M. and Reed of Seward, and Dr. George B. of Geneva. As a result of the second union two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Pendell, Mary, who has tenderly cared for her parents at home, and Creighton E., who lives at Anoka, Minn., and who was present at the funeral. Mrs. Pendell was the seventh in a family of nine children, four of whom still suvive her, two of those live in Seward, Mrs. McPheely and George Slonecker. It is seldom that such a long concourse of relatives are present at the burial of loved ones as was present at Mrs. Pendell's funeral on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Pendell settled in Seward county imany years a member of the Methodist church in this place. She was a beautiful Christian and perhaps no one has lived in the community who has more perfectly embodied the spirit of Christ than she. She was a strong believer in an utmost Savior and was for many years a living witness of the higher Christian life. Her whole life was one of victory, cheerfulness and contentment. She will be missed by many a heart who had learned to lean on her for sympathy and help. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by her pastor, Rev. H. G. Wilcox, and assisted by Mrs. Wilcox. The pallbearers were C. W. Barkley, Levi Hafer, James Bone, James Miller, W. W. Pierce and John Woods, Interment was made in the north cemetery. Mother is Dead Over the wires the telegram came, With messages so sad and true; With tremblling voice we read each line, Through, and through, and through. Oh, can it be, mother is gone, That life from her bosom has fled; Ah, yes, too true the telegram read, Mother is dead. Mother is dead, once more must I see, The form of that loved one so precious to me; From earliest childhood so gentle and good, Surely for all she hath done what she could; Once more by her side in sorrow I'll tread, And over the casket the tears silent shed, For mother is dead. Mother is dead; Ah, what would we do, When treasures like this Are snatched from our view. If Jesus had never yielded his breath, To redeem us forever from sorrow and death; He knows all our heartaches, Will relieve all our woe, So now to this trial with comfort we're led, Though it be, just as the telegram read, Mother is dead. Mother is dead, but she'll live evermore, Mid the beautied realms of The evergreen shore, We must brave all life's anguish; It's sorrows and pain, Till in Heaven we shall soon meet her again; Where no parting tear will ever be shed, With a crown of rejoicing upon her dear head, And never again will the sad words be said, Mother is dead.
