She departed this life Tuesday evening, March 10, 1987 at the Harlan County Hospital in Alma, Nebraska at the age of 90 years and nine days. Mabel’s early life was spent on a ranch in Texas. She later moved with her family to Nebraska where her father established a business and she was employed by the telephone company at Orleans, Neb. On March 17, 1921, Mabel C. Loomis was united in marriage to Leo James Colgan at Cambridge, Neb. To this union eight children were born, four sons, two that passed away in infancy, and Francis and Robert; and four daughters, Leona, Lucille, Mary and Bridget. The family made their home on a farm at Wilsonville, Neb. From there they moved to Oxford and later to Orleans. She had been a resident of the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center nursing home in Alma since January 6, 1983. Mabel was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Orleans. In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by one sister; one brother; her husband Leo in 1964; two infant sons; and a daughter, Mrs. Bridget Mines. She leaves to mourn her passing two sons, Francis Colgan and wife Delores of Holdrege, Neb., and Robert Colgan and wife Flo of Glendale, Ariz.; three daughters, Mrs. Leona Augustine and husband Jack, Mrs. Lucille Elliott and husband today, all of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Mary Conant and husband Don of Orleans; 19 grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. A rosary service was held Friday, March 13, at 7:30 pm led by Jerome Witte, at Banta-Torrey Funeral Chapel in Alma. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, March 14, at 10:30 am at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Alma, with Father Robert H. Smith as celebrant. Music was provided by the church choir with Mrs. Cecilia Morin as organist. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery at Alma. Banta-Torrey Funeral Home of Alma had charge of arrangements. Suggested memorials were for Masses and the Catholic church.
