Description	:	Mabel E. Martin was born May 7, 1898 at Glenwood, Iowa, and died Monday, April 6, 1970 at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa. She was the daughter of Margret and Albert Petty. She came with her parents to the Castana community and lived there since that time. She was a member of the Auxiliary of the Grimsley-Thayer Post American Legion of Castana and a member of the Northwest Country Club and a Charter member of the Ticonic Ladies Aid. Martin was born May 7, 1898 at Glenwood, Iowa, and died Monday, April 6, 1970 at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa. She was the daughter of Margret and Albert Petty. She came with her parents to the Castana community and lived there since that time. She was a member of the Auxiliary of the Grimsley-Thayer Post American Legion of Castana and a member of the Northwest Country Club and a Charter member of the Ticonic Ladies Aid. She married Lummie J. Martin on May 6, 1916 at Onawa, Iowa. Mr. Martin died January 10, 1967. Mabel was a member of the Free Methodist Church and later was affiliated with the Community Church in Castana, Iowa. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Susie) Anderson of Mount Clemons, Michigan; three sons, Doris, Clark and Lawrence, all of Castana; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Sarah Vance of Boise, Idaho; Mrs. Burl Seaton of Castana; two brothers, Melvin Petty of Castana, William [Walter] Gordon, Mena, Arkansas. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 1970 in the Community Church in Castana with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. Members of the Auxiliary of the Grimsley-Thayer Post, American Legion of Castana attended in a group and conducted a service at the cemetery. Pall bearers were Kenneth Simpson, Herbert McCall, Wilson Gruber, August Waderich, William Hall and Everett Woodward. Published in The Mapleton Press, Thursday, April 16, 1970.
