Caring for the flowers were Mrs. John DeCoster and Mrs. Harvey Spading. Pallbearers were John DeCoster, Harvey Spading, Charles, Frank, Dean and Floyd Hollopeter. Mabel Ellen Clark Slaymaker, daughter of Lewis and Imogene Manatt Clark, was born east of Brooklyn on Oct. 25, 1889, and passed away at the family farm home on June 3, 1961 following a long illness. She grew up in the Ladora community, moving with her parents to Carnforth when she was 13 years old. She attended Ladora, Victor and Carnforth schools. On Nov. 6, 1907 she was united in marriage to Fred Slaymaker at the Clyde Manatt home in Standwood, Iowa and to this union a daughter, Mildred was born. After living in the Carnforth community for about 2 1/2 years, the Slaymakers moved to the present farm, where her death occurred. She was a generous and loving mother and she and her husband took into their home Harry Duffus, when he was 11 years old, and reared him, providing for him a home as foster parents. On Oct. 6, 1946, Mrs. Slaymker was baptized and united with the First Presbyterian church of Brooklyn and was faithful to the church as long as her health permitted. Surviving are her husband, Fred, of Victor; her daughter, Mildred, Mrs. Fred Bartachek of Brooklyn; Harry Duffus of Brooklyn; three grandchildren, Roger and Gene Bartachek of Brooklyn and Mrs. Gary Smith of Center Point; Susan and Douglas Duffus of Victor; three great-grandchildren of Brooklyn; other relatives and many friends.
