MABEL JOSEPHINE ORD Mabel Josephine Ord was born to George and Josephine Allen Ord on July 28, 1888 near DuBois, Nebr., and passed away in Pawnee County Memorial Hospital, Pawnee City, Nebr., on June 8, 1973 at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 11 days. Her mother died when she was a baby and she was cared for by her grandparents, J.W. and Mary Jane Allen. Later she made her home with her uncle and aunt, D.W. and Florence Fry, whom she cared for in their later years. She taught in the country schools of Pawnee County a number of years, in DuBois 3rd, 4th, & 5th grades for 3 years and one year in the state of Washington. She joined the United Brethren Church in DuBois in 1922 and was pianist and Sunday School teacher for many years and remained a loyal member throughout her lifetime during the merging of United Brethren Evangelical and Methodist Churches. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the County Historical Society. She is survived by 3 nephews, Hunter Marshall, Trinidad, Colo., Chester Marshall, Kearney, Nebr., and Dean Marshall, San Diego, Calif., a half sister, Mrs. Gladys Cox, Pawnee City, Nebr., a half brother, John Ord, Sarasota, Fla., many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Monday, June 11 at DuBois United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Garrison officiating. Mrs. Herbert Marteney, organist, accompanied David Rinne who sang "Beyond The Sunset", and "In The Garden". Pallbearers were Ivan Nemec, Herbert Marteney, Max Church, Roy Kerl, Arthur Triska and Dean Lair. Interment was in the Pawnee City Cemetery. (The Pawnee Republican, Pawnee City, Nebr. June 21, 1973)
