DENNIS PASSED AWAY FRIDAY Succumbed At Near Midnight At Home On Main Street Funeral Rites Held Saturday Afternoon Mrs. Mabel R. Dennis, widow of E. Benson Dennis, who until his death on March 23, 1929, was prominently associated with his father, the late Senator L.E.P. Dennis, in the fish fertilizer business, passed away at her home on Main street at approximately 12:15 o'clock last Friday morning. For several months Mrs. Dennis had been in failing health and in recent weeks had been known to be in a critical condition and while the end was not unexpected, it nevertheless came as a distinct shock to all those who knew and loved her. She was sixty-two years of age at her passing and was the daughter of the late J. Frank Riggin and Arinthia Sterling Riggin, known by most everyone as "Miss Jen", both of whom were of early pioneer families, held in high esteem throughout this section. Mrs. Dennis was a life-long member of the Immanuel Methodist Church and while health permitted was active in her attendance at the institution. Her church, her home and her family were her main interests in life and one of her prime joys was the making of the house in which she lived something more than just a house; in making it a cozy, comfortable home for her husband and children and a pleasant place for friends and relatives to visit. A woman of many outstanding noble traits of character, Mrs. Dennis was known and dearly loved by an ever widening circle of warm friends, whose hearts are filled to overflowing with sorrow at the death of one so near and dear to them. Hers was a charitable nature and she gave freely of her means toward the support of her church and to any other worthy cause that she found possible. In the death of Mrs. Dennis this community has lost one of its finest most noble citizens. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from her late home with the Rev. Charles M. Elderdice, pastor of the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, officiating in the absence of her pastor, Rev. J.R. Bicking. Interment was in the family plot of the Crisfield cemetery. Pall-bearers were Warren F. Sterling, J. Coyne Sterling, Edmund Sterling, Benjamin Sterling, John T. Handy, and F. Kirk Maddrix. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Hannah, of Baltimore, two sons, E. Benson "Ben" Dennis, Jr., of New York and Franklin Dennis, of this city, and one granddaughter. A sister, Mrs. Maude R.
