Read More	ESTEEMED CITIZEN PASSED AWAY HERE Mrs. Arinthia Jane Riggin Died Late Tuesday Night FUNERAL SERVICES AT HOME THIS AFTERNOON Mrs. Arinthia Jane Riggin, one of Crisfield's most highly regarded residents, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mabel Dennis, on Main street, shortly before midnight Tuesday, after an illness of about two weeks. She was 83 years of age. Born in Crisfield October 19th, 1855, she was the daughter of the late William Clark Sterling and Jane Moore Sterling, representatives of two of the oldest Somerset families who played important roles in the community and religious life of lower Somerset county in their day. She was the widow of the late J. Frank Riggin, who, during his lifetime, was engaged in the retail mercantile business and in the seafood business in Crisfield. Mr. Riggin died in February of 1925. For a good many years Mrs. Riggin conducted a millinery establishment in Crisfield that was headquarters for the fashionables of a generation ago. It was located where the Daugherty building now stands. Some years ago she sold the property to C. Hubbard Daugherty, built a handsome home on Somerset avenue, and retired from business. For several years past she had been spending most of her time with her daughter, Mrs. Dennis. Mrs. Riggin was a member of the Immanuel M. E. Church and seldom missed a service there. For a great many years she was a member of the Immanuel choir, and up to the time of her death was serving in that capacity. A woman of sterling character, Mrs. Riggin was beloved by everyone who knew her, and there are few people in the community who were not acquainted with "Miss Jen", as she was affectionately called. In her daily life she practiced the Golden Rule, and lived up to her profession of Christian faith. She was ever ready to lend a helping hand, to answer the appeal of neighbor and friend for service, and to take part in those activities of church or social or civic undertakings that are the best parts of community life. Except for short periods of illness Mrs. Riggin was unusually active for a person of her age. She attained and enjoyed the meetings of Chesapeake Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was a members, and was present at the visitation of the Grand officers of the Grand Chapter a few weeks ago. One of her most valued accomplishments was the baking of cakes, and during the Thanksgiving holidays she made and baked several for the members of her family. Raised in the days when it was thought proper for all young women to know the culinary art thoroughly, she was and had a right to be proud of her adeptness in this direction. A grand lady of the old school, Mrs. Riggin will be sincerely missed in the large circle of her acquaintances. Funeral services will be held from the Dennis home on Main street this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Her pastor, Rev. J. R. Bicking, will officiate, and Chesapeake Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star will have charge of the funeral ceremonies. Interment will be in the Crisfield cemetery. Mrs. Riggin is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Dennis and Mrs. Maude Ford, and five grandchildren, Mrs. William Hanna, and Mrs. John Robertson, of Baltimore City, E.
