A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 29, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding with Fr. James Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Spalding. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with a 7 p.m. wake service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.levanderfuneralhome.com. Magdalene Margaret Keber was born in Beresford, South Dakota, on April 24, 1924, to Michael and Julia (Werner) Neuroth. She was the fourth of seven children and was baptized and confirmed at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Beresford, South Dakota. Magdalene was homecoming queen and captain of her basketball team at Beresford High School where she graduated in 1943. She loved bicycling with her friends, ice skating and going to dances. She worked at a local bank, drug store and movie theater while living in Beresford. Her father was killed in a train accident when she was 17 so she stepped up to help her mother during this most difficult time. Magdalene moved to California and lived with her brother and his wife while managing a Dress Shop during World War II. It is here where she met her future husband, Larry Keber. They married on Sept. 6, 1948, at Beresford, South Dakota, and moved to Spalding to farm on Lawrence Keber’s home place west of Spalding. There they raised a family of seven children. Magdalene was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding at the time of her death. She loved reading, gardening and traveling. Magdalene’s life was one of great faith and love for her family. She always had a positive attitude and brought great joy to her family. She will be greatly missed by all her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Edmund Keber of Spalding; five daughters, Connie (Bill) Patterson of Lincoln, Colette (Marty) Shaw of Page, Bernadine Keber of Columbus, Rita (Roger) Baumgart of Humphrey and Mary (Dr. Howard) Christman of Kearney; 17 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond (Elizabeth) Neuroth of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; along with many other relatives and friends. Magdalene was preceded in death her parents, Michael and Julia Neuroth; husband, Lawrence Keber; one son, Thomas Keber; two children in infancy; grandchild, Jason Baumgart; two great-grandchildren, Brianna Schernikau and Abigail Hellmer; brothers, Leslie, Jim, Jay, Bernard and Gene Neuroth; and one sister, Iona Neuroth.
