She had shown some improvement the last week, and on Saturday evening was able to come down town for a short time. Mrs. Norwood was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Baker. She had shown some improvement the last week, and on Saturday evening was able to come down town for a short time. Mrs. Norwood was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Baker. She was born at Ella, Wetzel county (sic), W.Va., January 11, 1877. In 1885 she came with her parents to Nelson, Nebraska. On June 21, 1906, she was united in marriage with Frank W. Norwood. The deceased was well known to the people of Nelson and Nuckolls county (sic). She graduated from Nelson high school in 1892, and taught school for a number of years. She is survived by the husband, two brothers and one sister: Clarence, Hazel, and Mrs. Edna Clements. The funeral has been arranged for two o'clock Friday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church. The services are to be conducted by Rev. W.B. Zimmerman and Rev. John Caldwell. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, April 26, 1934 ====== Mrs. Maggie Baker Norwood was born January 11, 1877, at Ella W.Va. in Wetzel county (sic), and departed this life April 25, 1934, age 57 years, 3 months and 14 days, at her home in Nelson, Nebraska. With her parents, William John and Louisa Baker, she came to Nelson in 1885 and has made her home in this community all but a few years, when she was away teaching and five years lived at various places on the Lincoln Division of the Burlington railroad on which Mr. Norwood was employed. On the 21st of June, 1906, she was united in marriage to Frank Norwood. Into their home came four motherless children, Lucile and Mina Dunken, Arthur Burnth and Deloris Maxine Hobbs whom they loved and cared for as though they were their own. It was especially difficult to give up the Dunken girls who returned the affection bestowed upon them and today speak of Mrs. Norwood as "Mother" Norwood. She leaves to mourn her departure, Frank Norwood, her husband; two brothers, Clarence Baker of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Hazlitt D. Baker of Sheridan, Wyoming; one sister, Mrs. Edna Clements of Benkelman, Nebraska; one niece and three nephews; the four whom she gave a home to, and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and Linden and Hattie, a brother and sister. She was the oldest of the six children. Mrs. Norwood graduated from Nelson High School in 1892 and from Emporia Teachers College, and taught fifteen years near Nelson, at Central City, including four years she taught Kindergarten in Nelson schools. Early in life she was converted and joined the Methodist Church, where she held her membership at the time of her death. She was a member of the Nelson Chapter No. 27 of the Order Eastern Star. Brubaker, Mrs. Emil Korbelik (NOTE: In the bound newspaper, Emil Korbelik is marked out and Ross Clem is written) and F.A. Scherzinger. Mrs. H.H. Hite accompanied. The family and members of the Methodist Church appreciate very much the thoughtfulness and kindness of the pastor and membership of the Presbyterian church in extending its use to them, account of the Methodist Church being re-decorated.
