Teller, son of the late Pierre and Avis Ann Teller, was born in eastern Iowa on July 13, 1868, and passed away at St. Mary's hospital at Columbus, Jan. 1, 1950. He had reached the age of 81 years, five months, 18 days. At the age of one year, he came to Nebraska with his parents, who homesteaded a farm four miles northwest of Octavia. He attended the Garfield school, now District 3, where he experienced the blizzard of 1888. At the age of 20, he moved with his parents to Rushville. The trip, made by covered wagon, took two weeks. He remained there only one year, then returned to Butler county. On April 12, 1894, he was united in marriage to Mary Anna Miller at David City. They united with the Methodist church, the former Savannah church near Bellwood. Their entire married life was spent near Octavia and Bellwood. In 1926, they moved into Octavia. Mr. Teller enjoyed riding in the car, which was indicated by the trip he took to Rushville only four weeks ago to attend the funeral of his sister, Miss Emma Teller. At that time he relate stories of his early pioneering experiences and stories of the Indians, with whom they came in contact in his first trip to Rushville. His grandchildren, whom he cherished so much, gave him many hours of enjoyment. He was a quiet, unassuming man, spending his life working and rendering kindness to others. He was active and apparently in good health up until 11 days preceding his death, when he suffered a stroke. Members of his family patiently cared for him and were with him constantly during his illness. His survivors include the widow, two sons, William and Maitland of Bellwood; three daughters, Christiana, Mrs. Joe Vrana, Minnie, Mrs. Howard Hookstra, of Octavia and Miss Lilas Teller of Central City, and eight grandchildren. Two daughters, Frances, and Mrs. Mayme Garfield, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the Octavia Baptist church, Tuesday. The services were in charge of Rev. D.T. Burress. The pallbearers were Landis Dodendorf, George Fahringer, Frank Davenport, Jake Velde, Frank Kreisinger and John Eberly. Ivin Keller and Earl Davenport served as ushers. Mrs. Frank Davenport and Mrs. Ralph Papa had charge of the flowers. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ditzler, and Mr., and Mrs. Clyde Whitmore. They sang, "In the Sweet By and By," "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder," and "Someday He'll Make it Plain." They were accompanied by Mrs. Everett Allen. Burial was in the Edholm cemetery.
