| Description | : | Revolutionary War Hero. Major Azariah Egleston was born in Sheffield, MA, son of Seth Egleston & Sarah Church. On April 22, 1775 he enlisted as a private in the regiment of Col. John Paterson and was active in recruiting other enlistments. With Colonel Paterson's regiment he crossed the Delaware with Washington Dec. 25, 1776 and fought in many principle battles including Princeton, Trenton, both battles of Bemis Heights, and Burgoyne's surrender at Saratoga.
