He was among the earliest pioneer settlers of Boone County and was widely known and highly esteemed. Malachi Staley was born in Highland county, Ohio, Sept. 24, 1823, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ellen Carpenter, in Moingona, where he had been making his home for some time, Nov. 18, 1907, aged 84 years, 1 month and 25 days. He was among the earliest pioneer settlers of Boone County and was widely known and highly esteemed. Malachi Staley was born in Highland county, Ohio, Sept. 24, 1823, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ellen Carpenter, in Moingona, where he had been making his home for some time, Nov. 18, 1907, aged 84 years, 1 month and 25 days. In 1842 he was married to Miss Susan Bennett. To them were born ten children, five of whom, with the wife and mother, preceded him in death. The family came to Boone County in 1850 and he has resided here ever since. The surviving children are Joe Staley, of Keystone, Oklahoma; Mrs. Elizabeth Teel, of Moran, Kansas; Mrs. Sarah Olmsted, of Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Catherine Patterson, of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Mrs. Ellen Carpenter, of Moingona. One brother, Joseph Staley, also survives him. He was for more than fifty years a devoted member of the Methodist church and leaves a wide circle of relatives and friends to mourn his death. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Son of John Staley and Elizabeth Deardorf. He married Susan in Highland Co., Ohio 24 Jul 1845. Their children include son George.
