Shaffer, only child of Mr. and Mrs. Zephaniah Shaffer, of Benton Harbor, who was drowned in the canal at that place last Saturday, the 27th inst., was buried in the Berrien Centre cemetery on Monday, the 29th inst. The funeral was very largely attended at the Berrien Centre Union church. The services were conducted by Rev. W. H. Brewster, of Benton Harbor, who said many comforting things to the bereaved parents and mourning and sympathizing friends. Mr. and Mrs. Shaffer have been sadly afflicted, as this is the third child that they have laid away in this cemetery in the last nine years. This one they kept the longest of any of them, he being six years and three months of age. Truly, their home is left to them desolate indeed, as the weeping mother exclaimed as she left the grave, "The sunshine has departed from our home." May they mourn not as those without hope.
