OBITUARY -- BURTON Maranda Emery Burton was born on the old Burton homestead near Parkerville, Kansas, December 26, 1879. He departed this life, Monday, January 19, 1953, age 73 years and 24 days. He was the youngest child of Maranda and Dicy Burton, and lived his entire life in the Parkerville community residing on the original Frank Burton homestead. Farming and livestock raising was his occupation. He was united in marriage to Delia Barber October 11, 1898. To this union was born two daughters, Mrs. Doris Buchman of Hymer, and Mrs. Harry Brown, who preceded him in death in 1936. Mr. Burton was always keenly interested in the affairs of the government, and participated in all community activities, serving officially in a number of ways. The Baptist Church of Parkerville was his choice and this he attended all his life, living and honorable Christian life. To his many friends and relatives he was known as Uncle Ran. He always had a smile and friendly greeting for all the children, was optimistic, cheerful, and interested in the welfare of everyone. The last three years he has been in declining health and was forced to retire. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers, also an infant grandson, Harry Jo Brown. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Delia Burton, White City; Mrs. Doris Buchman and husband, three grandchildren, Louise Noonen, Burton Buchman, and Jo Ann Buchman of Hymer, a host of family and friends. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday Jan. 21 from the Union Baptist Church at Parkerville by Rev. Frank W. Parker. Interment was made in Parkerville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert, Leland, and Robert Vern Barber, Benton, Hugh and Bernice Burton. Those who sang were Lester Payne, Mrs. Ed Hirt, Mrs. Kendall and Bob Strom. Mrs. Strom played the accompaniments.
