Description	:	Marcellus H. "Sally" Haverkamp, 79, of Seneca, Kansas, died Thursday, January 23, 2003, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. He was born April 1, 1923, on a farm northwest St. Benedict, Kansas, the son of Leo H. and Anna Fangman Haverkamp. He grew up there, attended St. Mary' School, and worked on the family farm. Read More	Marcellus H. "Sally" Haverkamp, 79, of Seneca, Kansas, died Thursday, January 23, 2003, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. He was born April 1, 1923, on a farm northwest St. Benedict, Kansas, the son of Leo H. and Anna Fangman Haverkamp. He grew up there, attended St. Mary' School, and worked on the family farm. On April 25, 1944, he entered the U.S. Army where he served in the European theater during World War II. He was a combat engineer with the 1270th Engineering C Battalion and participated in the Battle of the Bulge under the comman of General George Patton. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal, and was discharged February 22, 1946. On April 24, 1946, he married Irene Reinecke at Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville. They farmed north of Seneca until 1954, when they moved into Seneca. She survives of the home. He farmed and worked at Harry Roger's sawmill in Wetmore for 20 years. He also worked at the Seneca Elevator for 25 years until he retired in 1993. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and the St. Joseph Society at the church, the Knights of Columbus #1769 for over 50 years, the Earle W. Taylor Post # 21 of the American Legion, and the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all at Seneca.. Survivors besides his wife, Irene, are a son, Eric Haverkamp of Seneca; two daughters, Mary Lee Sanders of Topeka and Jane Fields of Eagle, NE; a brother, Melvin Haverkamp of Seneca; three sisters, Lucille Kramer of Aurora, NE, Theresa Koch of Holton. KS, and Leanne Baker of Topeka; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Vincent Haverkamp on October 31, 1963, and a granddaughter, Robin Fields on May 31, 1969. The mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 27, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial with military honors will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in St. Benedict.
