It says that she was born in Ireland but her father was born in Scotland and her mother in Ireland. She cannot read or write but can speak English. Her death certificate says that she died of old age at 85 and that she was born in County Down, Ireland. Her death certificate does not give a name for her father but states that her mother's name was Margaret Ann Johnson from Ireland. One story says that she was born in Scotland and her parent's died and she was sent to Ireland to live with an Uncle. Her name was Brown and the uncle's name was Johnson. If the uncle was her mother's brother, this story could certainly be consistent. As a teenager she was a servant for the John Major's, came to America with them and ended up marrying the oldest son, David. Ruth Major stated that Margaret was born in Scotland and was the daughter of a widowed woman named Brown. She was sent to live with her married sister in Ulster, Mrs. Johnson. She was sent to church and the minister recommended that she go with the Major family to the US.
