Major was born near Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa, on 18 February 1866 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Coy at Smithfield, Nebraska 6 January 1947. She was married to Joseph K. Frescoln 1 October 1884 and to that union ten children were born, James Edgar who died in 1930, Emmett O.; Charles L.; Joseph G.; Dewy and Elbert, all of Winner, South Dakota. Clara Fowler of Rockwell City, Iowa, Mrs. Nellie Coy of Smithfield, Nebraska, Mrs. Alice Pelletier of Whittier, California and Mrs. Margaret Mabbott of Yuma, Arizona. Mrs. Frescoln, together with her husband was raised in the Baptist faith and united with that church early in life, later affiliating with the Methodist church at Smithfield. After her marriage, Mrs. Frescoln lived in Jefferson county, Iowa, two years in Colorado, eight years in Oklahoma, finally settling on a farm near Elwood, Nebraska where they lived until 1920 when they decided to retire. As most of their children were then living in Winner, they purchased a residence and made their home in Winner until Mr. Frescoln's death in 1940. Since her husband's death Mrs. Frescoln had made her home for the most part with her children to whom she was very much devoted. While living in Oklahoma Mrs. Frescoln made a public school of her home and taught her own and neighbor children. Her older children remember her as a beautiful singer and would never forget her lullabys, love songs and beautiful poems which she was always singing or reciting for them. She left to mourn her passing the nine children previously mentioned, a sister, Mrs. Ellen Dowler of Chinese Camp, California, sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church that afternoon and burial was made in the Winner cemetery.
