Margaret Clista Carmody Lang was born March 29, 1916, at the family farm near Zearing, Iowa, the oldest of six children born to John P. and Rose M. (Roche) Carmody. She attended a one-room school through the eighth grade, attended Lincoln Township High School in the 9th and 10th grades and then took business courses at Nevada High School, where she graduated in 1933. She attended Capitol City Commercial College in Des Moines and then worked as a bookkeeper at Gibbs-Equipment Co. She married Richard B. (Dick) Lang September 17, 1941. After his return from military service, they settled down to farm and raise seven children on her parents farm in rural Zearing. She was an active member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, St. Gertrude Circle, past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 37, a volunteer at the Mary Greeley hospitality shop, and was actively involved in forming the Story County Mental Retardation Association. She is survived by one daughter, Judy (Howard) Reischauer of Zearing; four sons, Michael (Tammy) Lang of Boone, Patrick (Hue) Lang of San Diego, Louis Lang of Nevada and John (Pam) Lang of Lakeville, Minnesota; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three sisters; Lillian Botts of Marshalltown, Vera Andrew of Des Moines, and Delores Jones of Zearing. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; two daughters, Marcia (Butch) Cox of Zearing and infant daughter Mary Catherine; her sister, Patricia Rodish; and infant brother, John, and numerous nieces and nephews.
