Read More	'The Madisonian,' Virginia City, MT 12 October 1911, page 1: Mrs. Margaret Wilcox who has been a resident of Montana since 1865, died Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. D. Bock, Jr., in the Central Ruby valley after a long illness. Mrs. Wilcox was born Sept. 4, 1840, in Benbrok, county of Witworth, province of Ontario. Her maiden name was Margaret Duff, and on June 5, 1865,* she was married to William Wilcox in her girlhood home. Shortly afterwards Mr. Wilcox and his bride crossed the plains to Alder gulch, making the journey overland and with teams. In Alder gulch Mr. Wilcox was a placer miner for a while, later engaging in ranching. He was one of the original members of the California Mining company, an organization which had much local fame during pioneer days. To Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox were born 10 children, seven boys and three girls. Six of these are now alive. They are: Mrs. J. D. Brock, Jr.; Mrs. J. I. Haines, both of the Central Ruby valley; William and Ray Wilcox of Ruby, Lincoln Wilcox of Alder and Allen Wilcox of Laurin. In addition there are 21 grandchildren. The funeral was held at the home of Mrs. Bock Sunday afternoon, the burial being in the cemetery at Nevada. Rev. Fulford of the M. E. church at Sheridan conducted the services. The pall bearers were her four sons and two grand children, the oldest sons of Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Haines. Friends from all parts of the valley were in attendance of the funeral, the procession being one of the longest seen in the county in recent years. Mrs. Wilcox was a beloved woman and counted her friends among hundreds of the residents of Madison county. The family resided in Virginia City until 1875 and then went to the Ruby valley, where they resided for 10 years. In 1888 they went to Anaconda from where Mr. Wilcox went on a prospecting tour to Canada. Later the family returned to Madison county, where they have since made their home. For the past several years Mrs. Wilcox has made her home with her daughters, Mrs. Haines and Mrs. Bock, and won the love and esteem of all of her friends and neighbors by her kindly disposition and the cheerfulness of her nature. ~~ *William Wilcox and Margaret Duff were married on January 6, 1865 in Binbrook, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada. She was 25 years old, her parents listed as James and Jane.
