Read More	Columbia, SC - Margaret LaBoone Dacus, 86 years old, devoted wife of the late Howard Craton Dacus, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2016. She was born in Easley on June 18, 1930, the daughter of the late Lawrence Joseph LaBoone, former Easley Police Chief, and the late Cleo Elizabeth Gaillard. She was a faithful wife and a devoted and loving caregiver of her beloved husband, Howard, for over 63 years. They were inseparable and were always mentioned together. Their home on Beaver Lake (Lakeshore Drive) in Asheville, NC was a favorite destination for the entire family. Margaret was talented and gifted in so many ways. Her immaculately decorated home was always open to friends and family. Margaret was a member of First Baptist Church in Asheville, NC for over 50 years. She graduated from Easley High School (Class of 1947) and then received her Associate’s degree in Business. Throughout her life she was always a community leader, including volunteer work with the American National Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. After moving from Asheville, Margaret lived the last few years of her life in Columbia to be close to “her girls,” Beth and Scottie (nieces). Although Margaret and Howard never had children of their own, they were extremely involved in helping to raise many in their extended family. Margaret always showed tremendous strength and resolve throughout every season of her life. Her simple elegance, beautiful smile and gentle spirit will never be forgotten. Surviving is her sister, Ms. Betty Preston of Summerville. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion Owens (Dell) and Barbara Smith (Bill) and one brother, Lawrence Joseph (Doris). Also surviving are her three nieces Christy Cantrell Sease (Tony), Marion Elizabeth Owens and Margaret Scott Rabb (Johnny). Six Nephews: Brian Louis Cantrell, Bradford Lawrence Owens (Ada), Joseph Anthony LaBoone (Pam), Keith Randall Murphy (Cindy), Michael Dell Owens (Janet) and Steven Patrick Murphy (Sheri). Margaret is also survived by many grandnieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate her life is planned at the Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community located at 1 Still Hopes Drive, West Columbia. A private graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley, where she will be laid to rest surrounded by her family. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Still Hopes for their devoted care, especially Elizabeth, Linda and Michelle.
