Mrs. Miersma was born March 25, 1911, on a farm a mile south of Carmel, the daughter of Peter and Johanna (Schut) Westra. She was baptized in the Carmel Reformed Church. At the age of one, her family moved to a farm northwest of Hull. On May 16, 1933, she married Wilmer Miersma at Hull. They lived in Hull, until moving to a farm southwest of Hull in March of 1945. Upon retirement in 1962, they returned to town. He died December 30, 1990, in Rock Valley. She became a resident of the Four Seasons in Rock Valley in February of 2000 and transferred to Valley Manor in Rock Valley in January 2002. A member of the Miersma family has been a part of First Reformed Church in Hull since its founding in 1885. They were the only family to have continuous membership the entire 118-year church history. Margaret was the last member of the family to worship there. She also belonged to the Reformed Church Women's Group and participated in the Sunday school. Survivors include her daughter, Harriett; a granddaughter; a grandson; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, John; and a sister, Pearl. She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Dora, Fanny, Peter, Henrietta, Sam, Fanny, Henry and Johanna.
