Hanken died at her home east of Monticello, last Monday, Morning at 5 o'clock. she received a stroke of paralysis the Wednesday before. The physicians tried in vain to prolong life but the stroke was too severe to be overcome. Mrs. Hanken was a native of Germany, but has been a resident of this township for more than thirty-five years. She was a good woman, and greatly respected by those who came within the range of her acquaintanceship. She was the mother of a fine family of children, and to-day they "rise up and call her blessed." Her nature was strongly religious, and she died in the contented faith that makes dark places light, and adds trusting belief to hope. The funeral was conducted this forenoon by her pastor, Rev. Von Strohe. The services were attended by a very large concourse of sorrowing friends. Mrs. Hankens' maiden name was Heyen. She was born May 34th, 1834 at Eibenhausen, Province Hanover, Germany. She was married to Mr. Hanken April 11th, 1858. They came to America the same month, first stopping for three months at Dixon, Illinois, after which they settled near Monticello.
