She was the second child of a family of seven children, all of whom preceded her in death, excepting the youngest brother, J.C. Edwards of Bayard, Ohio. Her paternal ancestry was English, she being of the fourth generation from John Edwards, who came to the United States early in the seventeenth century and settled in Chester county, Pa. Her parents immigrated to the state of Ohio in 1835. There they played an active part in the development of the Buckeye State. Her father was a stone contractor and builder and was prominently identified in the contracting and construction of the bridge work for the first railroad built from Pittsburg to Alliance, Ohio. Margaretta, then a girl of sixteen years, did a great work in assisting her father care for the hundreds of workmen whom he had in his charge. It was a great task to provide food for those hardy men, and Margaretta did this, practically unassisted. She grew to womanhood in Columbiana county and was on October 3, 1855, united in marriage to Henry Messimore. To this union one child was born, Cynthia. In 1863 Mr. and Mrs. Messimore and daughter moved to Kosciusko county, Indiana, where they resided fourteen years, and where their daughter completed her education and grew to womanhood. Their daughter was married to L.D. Cary Sr. at that place. Three years after their daughter's marriage they moved, with their daughter and husband, to Cherokee, Iowa, where they resided a short time, when they all moved in October, 1877, to Kansas and settled near Glasco, Cloud county. Nine years later, April 29, 1887, Cynthia, their only daughter, died. And after her death the bereaved parents centered their life's efforts in their two grandchildren, Luther M. Cary of Kansas City, Kansas and Mable Cary, deceased wife of W.H. Harper. Later they found themselves comfortably located to enjoy the blessings of health and happiness to a ripe old age. She and her companion enjoyed almost 54 years of happy wedded life, when on May 14, 1909, she laid to rest the one who made life "all" to her. After her husband's death she made her home with her granddaughter, and one year after the death of her granddaughter she found comfort in the companionship of her maiden niece, Florence Messimore, at Sidney, Indiana, at which place she died on her 82nd birthday, January 31, 1918. The deceased was baptized into the Restitution Faith at an early age, and continued to live strong in the faith of the entire Morality of Man, the second Advent of Christ, and the establishment of the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. She was zealous in her religion, an exemplary wife, an affectionate mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves to mourn her loss, one brother, J.C. Edwards, Bayard, Ohio, one grandson, L.M. Cary of Kansas City, Kansas, two great-grandsons, Lauren J. Harper of Glasco and Little Henry Cary of Kansas City, Kansas, and a host of other relatives and friends. During the last years of her life she outlined her funeral services, and the entire community joined Wednesday in their efforts to carry out the oft repeated wishes, in the services held then. Farewell, but not forever be the grief Or parting here so sadly known, The Harvest Time, the golden sheaf Shall come when death and sight are flown.
