Description	:	Marian Hudson, 98 of Pierre died Friday, August 17, at St. Mary's Hospital. Visitation will be held from 5-7 Tuesday, August 21 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre, followed by a prayer service at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, August 22 at Ft. Pierre Congregational Church with Pastor Roger Easland officiating. Burial will be at Scotty Philip Cemetery. Marian Thoreson was born February 3, 1914 to Severt and Grace (Oldfield) Thoreson of Orton, SD. She graduated from Pierre High School in 1932 and began working for the U.S. Indian Service in Pierre. She married Philip H. Hudson in 1936. They lived in the New Underwood and Orton, SD, areas and moved to Fort Pierre when their children started school. She has lived at Parkwood and Dakota Heritage since 1999. Marian worked for the U.S. Indian Service, S.D. State Engineers Office and the U.S. Soil Conservation Service until her retirement in 1974. Marian was an active and faithful member of Fort Pierre Congregational Church and the Eastern Star. She loved cooking for her extended family, gardening, crocheting and playing cards with her family and friends. She is survived by her children: Lorraine Martin, Edith (James) Hoffman, Gale P. (Verlyn) Hudson and Judy (Scotty) Hannum; sister, Arline Steckelburg; eleven grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two nephews: John Dennis Tyrrell and William Knight. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip; parents, Grace and Severt Thoreson; sister, Marjorie Willis and five grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to the Fort Pierre Congregational Church.
