Miss Mary Dobrovolny was born in Bohemia, October 22, 1873. She came to this country when a small child and settled with her parents in southeastern Nebraska. She was married to Frank Slama October 10, 1893. To this union were born four children, the eldest having preceded her mother to the great Beyond. The remaining children are Joseph, aged 14; Elsie, aged 11; and Blanch, aged 7. Mrs. Slama had been subject to a lingering illness for more than the past four years. She was given the best medical attention possible but her affliction seemed to baffle the most skilled physicians. All the care and love that an anxious household could devise and apply for her comfort were brought into play, and despite the prayers and entreaties of all who knew and loved her, their appeals were overruled and the sufferer's spirit departed about six o'clock Monday morning, June 17. Besides a husband and three children, Mrs. Slama leaves to mourn her death an aged father, Joseph Dobrovolny, of Waterville, Kans.; a sister, Mrs. Adolph Dvorak; and two brothers, Frank of Waterville, Kans., and Adolph, living northwest of Humboldt. The funeral services were held from the family home, seven miles south of DuBois, on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, being conducted by John Nedela, Sr., and Rev. F. A. Luedeke, of the German church south of DuBois. Interment was made in the DuBois cemetery. All the near relatives except a brother were present at the funeral. The funeral was one of the largest ever held in this community and shows the high esteem in which Mrs. Slama was held by her many friends. The Press joins the entire, community in extending their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family in this time of sorrow. ___________________ CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank our many friends for the loving kindness shown us during the sickness and death of our dear wife and mother. FRANK SLAMA Mrs. Frank Slama died on the morning of the 17th of June 1912. She was the wife of Frank Slama who lives six miles north of Seneca. She was born in Bohemia in the year 1874, but has lived the last seven years on the farm north of here. She was the faithful mother of four children, the youngest of whom is eight years old. Mrs. Slama was a quiet disposition, so that while she understood the English language very well she did not like to talk it lest she should make a mistake, consequently she did not mingle much in society, but all who knew her held her in high esteem. It can be truthfully said of her she was a good wife and an excellent mother. No higher praise can be for any woman. Mrs. Slama was buried in DuBois, Nebraska, June 19, 1912.
