A viewing and Rosary Service will be held at the Avera Prince of Peace Sacred Heart Chapel in Sioux Falls on Friday, July 20, 2018 from 1:00-3:00 PM with the family present (Rosary beginning at 2:30 PM). Marjorie Ann (Fergen) Cordts was born on August 9, 1927 in Parkston, SD, the youngest daughter of Walter and Eva (Thom) Fergen. Marjorie attended school and grew up in Parkston, graduating from Parkston High School in May 1945. From 1945-1947, Marjorie attended the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, MN, and from 1947-1949 she was in Radiologic Technologist Training at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Marjorie was employed as an X-Ray Technician in Mankato, MN from 1949-1953, in Denver, CO from 1953-1965, and at Medical Associates Clinic in Pierre, SD from 1979-1993. On February 13, 1965, Marjorie was united in marriage to Donald Francis Cordts at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Denver, CO, and the couple made their home in Pierre, SD for the next 40 years. Marjorie dedicated the early years of her marriage to the raising of her three children before later returning to work as an X-Ray Technician in Pierre. She was a very active member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Pierre where she served as a School Board Member and as a Room Mother for Saint Joseph Elementary School, and she also served in many various organizations within the Church such as Catholic Daughters of America, Altar Society, Saint Joseph Home & School Association, Social Concerns Committee, Blood Drive Coordinator, Lifesaver Project Coordinator, Bible Study Groups, along with Hospital Auxiliary and the Cultural Heritage Center volunteer work within the community. Marjorie will be remembered for her zealous spirit; her strength, fortitude, and determination; her special gifts of leadership; and her great love, eager service, and heartfelt devotion to her family, her Church, her friends, and her community. She delighted in being with and around children; she loved good music, warm weather, bright sunshine, and playing with cats; she loved cooking meals & being a homemaker, attending daily Mass, praying the Rosary, going for walks, having coffee & visiting with her friends, traveling with her husband during their retirement years, and being very active in the lives of her children and in everything that she did. In April 2009, Marjorie moved to the Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community in Sioux Falls, SD where she lived happily until the time of her death. Marjorie is survived by her three children: Barbara Cordts of Birmingham, AL; Steven Cordts of Bemidji, MN; and David Cordts of Minneapolis, MN; along with one granddaughter, Evelyn Elizabeth Cordts of Bemidji, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald (+2003), and her two older sisters, Muriel Kathryn Fergen (+at birth), and Mrs. Clare Schmidt (+2013). - Miller Funeral Home
