Description	:	Marjorie Jean Porter, 88, passed away on Oct. 6, 2009 after a lengthy illness. She was born on March 30, 1921 in Long Pine, Neb. to Ray L. and Fern (Bingham) Carr. She graduated from high school in Winner, SD, in 1938 and then attended Northwestern Medical Institute in Minneapolis, MN. She worked in the hospital in Beloit, Kan. where she met and married Walter D. Porter on Dec. 14, 1941. The family moved to Colorado Springs in 1949. She was born on March 30, 1921 in Long Pine, Neb. to Ray L. and Fern (Bingham) Carr. She graduated from high school in Winner, SD, in 1938 and then attended Northwestern Medical Institute in Minneapolis, MN. She worked in the hospital in Beloit, Kan. where she met and married Walter D. Porter on Dec. 14, 1941. The family moved to Colorado Springs in 1949. In addition to caring for her family, in 1953, she went to work at St. Francis Hospital. She served as chief technologist in the Radiology Department, and she retired in 1979 as the chief nuclear medicine technologist. During her career she was active in the Colorado Society of X -Ray Technologists and the Nuclear Medicine Society. She and her husband enjoyed their retirement for several years traveling in their RV. Her hobbies included oil painting, reading, and crochet. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church, and until her illness enjoyed Aqua-aerobics with many friends at the Manitou municipal pool. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years Walter D. Porter, her brother Raleigh B. Carr, and two sisters Ruth V. Hite and Wanita R. Eddie. Her survivors include one daughter Sheila (Dan) Skubby of Canon City; sons Mason (Jan) Porter of Colorado Springs and Michael (Mary Ann) Porter of Alamosa; granddaughters Lara (Bill) Herholtz and Shannon Porter; grandsons J.R. Porter, Preston Porter and David (Liz) Porter, as well as by five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Fri, Oct. 9, 2009 at Blunt Mortuary Chapel, 2229 W. Colorado Ave., Colorado Springs. Funeral services will be at 10 am Sat, Oct. 10, 2009 at Trinity Methodist Church, 701 N. 20th St., Colorado Springs. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Pikes Peak Hospice or Trinity Methodist Church.
