She had been in failing health almost a year and in October of 1958 she underwent surgery for the ailment. The last four weeks she had been bedfast. The last four weeks her sisters and their families had helped in way they could to make her comfortable, but at last the necessary care could be obtained only in a hospital. She attained the age of 67 years, 7 months and 24 days. Martha, daughter of Peter and Susanna Hupka, was born Dec. 2, 1891 at St. Mary, Nebr. The early years of her life were spent on a farm near St. Mary, and she attended the St. Mary parochial school. On February 21, 1914 she was married to Urban Goracke at St. Mary, and he preceded her in death in October of 1943. Mrs. Goracke assumed the duties of postmaster in St. Mary 12 years ago, and not until a few weeks ago, when her health no longer permitted her to carry on with the work did she give up the task she so enjoyed. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic church and gave generous gifts to the church. She was fond of flowers and gardening, and was blessed with a "green thumb." The lawn by her home and the post office was always beautiful, with grass so neatly mowed and flowers in profusion throughout the entire growing season. For six and one-half years Mrs. Goracke was the St. Mary correspondent for the Couier. Surviving are three sister: Agnes (Mrs. H. Puchalla), St. Mary; Maggie (Mrs. Anton Kempkes), Sterling; Mary (Mrs. Frank Goracke Jr.), Tecumseh. The funeral was held at 9:00 o'clock Tuesday morning, July 23, in Holy Rosary church at St. Mary, with Father Stanley J. Buczkiewicz in charge. Mrs. Arthur Neukirch was organist. Pallbearers were nephews of Mrs. Goracke: Peter Hupka, August Hupka, Roy Puchalla, Norman Kempkes, Clem Pella and Leonard Goracke. Burial was in Holy Rosary cemetery at St. Mary.
