Martha Jane Rucker was born April 22, 1818, in Woodford Co., Ky, the daughter of James Plunkett Rucker and Mary Ann Empson McDaniel Rucker. After Thomas George Magruder's death, she married a Mr. Primrose. She died Feb. 8, 1882, and is buried in the Magruder cemetery northwest of Leonard. Her father, J.P. Rucker, was a Baptist preacher in Kentucky. On Oct. 29, 1843, Martha Jane Magruder and Sally Gillaspy, along with Benjamin Stephens, James F. Smith, Alexander Gillaspy, James T. Crenshaw, and John C. Garnett met at the home of James Garnett and organized the North River Baptist Church. Their first preacher was Elder Benjamin Stevens.
