They moved to Shelby Co., Mo. in 1839 and settled north of Leonard. He was a farmer, a Mason, and a Justice of Peace. Read More	Leonard History 1989, page 146. Thomas George Magruder Family. Thomas George Magruder was born in Frederick Co., Va. on Oct 2, 1811, the son of Dr. Daniel and Eleanor Davenport Magruder. He was married in Shelby Co., Ky., on June 8, 1837, to Martha Jane Rucker. They moved to Shelby Co., Mo. in 1839 and settled north of Leonard. He was a farmer, a Mason, and a Justice of Peace. He died March 12, 1876, and is buried in the Magruder cemetery northwest of Leonard. Thomas George and Martha Jane were the grandparents of Chester Magruder, Roy McDaniel, Grude(sic) McDaniel, Madison and Bertie Priest, Mattie Cornelius, and Vassie(sic) Mae Singleton, and others who did not live near Leonard. Magruder, a respected citizen of Taylor township, died on Sunday eve last at 6 o'clock, after an illness of many months. Shelbina democrat. (Shelbina, Mo.). (Shelbina, MO), 1876-03-15, page 1, column 3 OBITUARY. Thomas G. Magruder departed this life March 12th, 1876, at his residence in Taylor township, Shelby county, Mo. He was born in Frederick county, Virginia, Oct. 11th 1811; immigrated to this county in 1838, where he has resided up to the time of his death. Very early in life he learned two important facts, to-wit: There are certain things to be attended to by man which are essential to the peace and well-being of the human soul and a certain limited time to which to attend to these things, or they must remain forever undone. He "was not a forgetful hearer but doer of the word." He officiated as Deacon of the Baptist church a quarter of a century with credit to himself and honor to the church of the First Born. His conduct and deportment through life was so correct, so upright, so regulated by discretion and propriety, so prudent and dignified on all occasions that he won the confidence and love of all who knew him. But he has left us! He was attended during his last moments by an affectionate wife, dutiful children, kind brothers and sisters and a host of neighbors and friends who assembled at his bedside and watched his departure with sorrow in their hearts and tears in their eyes. He passed away without any appearance of suffering whatever to his reward — there to wait the arrival of all the virtuous and good of earth. H. Moulton, Mo., March 16th 1876.
