Description	:	Martin Edward DeWall October 11, 1923 - July 31, 2010 Martin Edward DeWall was born on October 11, 1923 to Henry J. and Emma W. Joens DeWall on the family farm near Rolfe, IA. He went home to be with the Lord on July 31, 2010 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital. He attended grade school at the Roosevelt #2 country school and graduated from Rolfe High School in 1941. Read More	Martin Edward DeWall October 11, 1923 - July 31, 2010 Martin Edward DeWall was born on October 11, 1923 to Henry J. and Emma W. Joens DeWall on the family farm near Rolfe, IA. He went home to be with the Lord on July 31, 2010 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital. He attended grade school at the Roosevelt #2 country school and graduated from Rolfe High School in 1941. He entered the army on December 16, 1943 and served in WWII in the South Pacific Theater until injuries sent him home March 22, 1946. He married Lenora M. Hohensee on June 26, 1949 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, Iowa. They farmed near Pocahontas for 7 years and moved to a farm in the Rolfe area in 1958. They relocated to a farm near Gilmore City in 1977 and retired to their present home in Pocahontas in 1988. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at the St. Peter Lutheran Church where he was active his entire life as a Sunday school teacher, member of the Lutheran Brotherhood, and served on the church council. Martin's faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life. He treasured his family and especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in sports and activities. He was a dedicated farmer with a love for the land and raising livestock. He was on the Farm Bureau board and Pocahontas County Cattlemen's Association. He enjoyed many fishing trips in northern Minnesota with family and friends. He was a friend to everyone. He would sit on a bench in the store and could strike up a conversation with any passerby. He enjoyed cheering on his favorite sports teams and also playing cards with family and friends. His survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lenora; 4 children: Brenda (Robert) Dodge, Britt, IA; Dennis (Debbie) DeWall, Hollister, CA; Sharon (Jim) Bangert, Pocahontas, IA; and Garry (Linda) DeWall, Madrid, IA; 10 grandchildren: Timothy (Hillary) Dodge, Altoona, IA; Sarah (Brian) Powers, Pueblo West, CO; Kristin (Ryan) Volk, Altoona, IA; Melanie (Steve) Lukowych, Elk Grove Village, IL; Kyle (Darci) Bangert, Fort Dodge, IA; Amy Dodge, Altoona, IA; Travis Bangert, Fort Dodge, IA; Laura Bangert, Omaha, NE; Jeremy Dodge, Britt, IA; and Emily DeWall, Madrid, IA; 3 great grandchildren: Samuel Dodge, Caleb Volk, and Arianna Powers. He is also survived by sister-in-laws: Henrietta DeWall, Pocahontas, IA; Maralyn DeWall, Booneville, MO; and Millie DeWall, Rolfe, IA. Martin was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Minnie (Carl) Lundberg, Ann (Jean) Christiansen, and Henrietta DeWall; and brothers Edward Carl, Emmet, Walter, and Raymond.
