He was born August 26, 1930 to Henry J. and Emma (Joens) DeWall on the family farm where he resided until his death at age 79. DeWall August 26, 1930 - February 5, 2010 Raymond William DeWall's soul escaped its earthly shell on February 5, 2010. He was born August 26, 1930 to Henry J. and Emma (Joens) DeWall on the family farm where he resided until his death at age 79. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Peter Lutheran Church, Pocahontas, Iowa. He attended Roosevelt #2 Country School and graduated from Rolfe High School in 1949. He entered the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was attached to the Air Force as a heavy equipment operator, building air strips in Korea. Ray had an abiding love for farming, which was evident even in school where he was nicknamed "farmer". Following his military duty, he returned to Iowa and began farming the "home place". On June 14, 1964, he married Mildred Panbecker Hansen, and together they raised livestock, crops, and a family of three children. In addition to farming, Ray performed farm custom work, enjoyed feeding cattle and sold agricultural-related products. He enjoyed bowling, darts, reading and sports. As a community member, he served on the REC committee, Pocahontas County Cattleman's Association, and was a County Committeeman for ASC. Ray was a devout Christian and his faith played a large role in his entire life. He attended Sunday School and confirmation classes faithfully. As a teenager, he was active in the church youth group and presided over the Luther League Federation. As an adult, he was president of the men's group known as "Brotherhood" and served on church council. Ray taught the confirmation Sunday School class for many years. It was his desire to have his students realize the importance of accepting Christ as their Savior and remain faithful to Him for all their days. Both he and his wife, Millie, served as youth Luther League Counselors and were on the church centennial Steering Committee. Ray was an avid Bible reader, especially enjoying prophecy and continued to look forward to Christ's return, wanting all to be ready and waiting for that trumpet sound. He eagerly anticipated prophetic fulfillment. He is now experiencing the Lord's presence because of his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife, Millie; children, Brian (Deborah) of Ames; Debbie (Mike) of Lincoln, NE; David (Lara) of San Jose, CA; grandson, Ian; granddaughter, Aisha; brother, Martin (Lenora) of Pocahontas; sisters-in-law, Henrietta of Pocahontas and Maralyn of Booneville, MO; and many relatives and friends. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Minnie (Carl) Lundberg, Ann (Jean) Christiansen and Henrietta DeWall and brothers, Edward Carl, Emmet and Walter.
